How to hire helpers, nannies and drivers in BGC

Most expats hire helpers, nannies and drivers by word of mouth, through recommendations from people they trust. Agencies, cleaning apps and hire-a-driver services fill the gaps. If you employ a helper full time, the Kasambahay Law gives you legal duties.

How expats hire, and what to pay

Most expat families in BGC hire by word of mouth: a recommendation from a friend, a colleague or another family whose helper or driver they know and trust. Agencies are used too, but a trusted referral is still the most common route. Whichever way you find someone, check references and an NBI clearance, and put the terms in writing.

Going rates in BGC (2026)

  • Full-time nanny or helper (5 or 6 days a week): about ₱20,000–30,000 a month all in, counting salary, government benefits and allowances. Few families pay more than ₱30,000 in total.
  • What goes into that total: a base salary, government benefits (SSS, PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG) of about ₱2,000 a month, and a food and toiletry allowance of about ₱2,000 a month, paid as one monthly sum or a fixed amount per day. Live-out helpers may also get a transport allowance of about ₱200 a day. 13th-month pay is due each December.
  • Or one all-in salary: many families skip separate allowances and agree on one monthly salary with benefits included. The helper then budgets food and transport on their own.
  • Live-in or live-out: live-in helpers usually ask for less. Live-out helpers ask for more, mostly because they pay to commute to and from work every day, and also because they pay rent on their own home.
  • Family driver: about ₱20,000–25,000 a month. The higher end of the range usually includes government benefits and food and transport allowances.
  • Part-time helper: usually paid by the day, either ₱150–200 an hour or a day rate of about ₱1,000 for 8 hours.
  • Why BGC pays more: salaries for jobs in BGC run higher than elsewhere in Metro Manila. Helpers and drivers often travel a long way to get there, and BGC is an expensive place to live, where most things cost more.

Part-time help can save you a lot. If you don't have children, or don't need long hours of childcare, a helper for a few days a week often covers the cleaning, laundry and cooking for much less than a full-time salary.

Typical monthly costs in BGC, October 2026. The legal minimum for helpers in Metro Manila is ₱7,800 a month, but expat households pay well above it.
